Hot dogs and flip flops, surf and sun, a good book and lemonade...it is definitely summer. No school was just getting kind of boring. Then July came around and now I have more school... WAY less than usual, but enough to keep my brain pumping. Algebra, here I come! I also went Geo-caching today. I actually found the last one and found out a clue. We also went to a peacock farm. 4th of July was fun and I loved the sparklers and pop its! My sunburn hurts so bad...I even explained to my mom how bad it hurt by using Expo on the vanity mirror in her room (I have loved doodling on mirrors ever since my friend proved Expo's washable.

Gus has just passed away. Dottie will paint a rock just for him to put over his grave in our backyard. He has made wonderful memories in our life but we are ready to make new ones with our next pet.

Today is very stressful-I have to do a bunch of school. I have a big horse project to do on LOYALTY and I have to be loyal everyday....I'm not doing very well plus I have to write a whole book on it. I also have my monthly report due this week on a kid from a book we read:( I also have to study for finals and I also have to study for monthly tests, like geography, history, and spelling. In addition I have a bunch of notes to take and a load of Grammar, plus a book to read. Ugh! I better get started.

Today cutest 2 year old ever (there are a lot of others :) is coming over!!! I'm so excited because we never get to see her anymore since they moved. It's so fun now because she can talk A LOT. Sometimes she even makes jokes. Anyway, spring break wasn't a blast even though we did get a new car, visit my cousins, and go on a field trip for school ( I guess I shouldn't be complaining...i love my cousins and our car has a DVD player AND the field trip was fun: ). My dad is going to help me start on my science project this weekend and I had a report. I finished all of my state tests and I'm glad that's over...and I passed. We also went to a beach house with cousins before spring break.

First Day of Winter

Hi guys! Yesterday was really fun. We went to a light festival and got pizza with our cousins and then we watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid. On Sunday, we watched the Beauty and the Beast play for a school field trip. There were creepy wolves that came down the isle Dottie and my dad were sitting! Some of our teachers and friends were in the play. Did you know that today is the shortest day in 146 years? I got some pictures of the pretty, almost full moon last night! My mom said we might go to a movie today! Tomorrow, the cousins (we gave them the names Stripes for the little one and Blue-dots for the one that is Dottie's age) are leaving....but we are going with them!!! We will come home Christmas Eve! Merry Christmas!

Hi again! The computer got messed up so I could only post pics, so this an addition to Cooking up b-fast. Dottie and I got bored, so we cooked breakfast with each other. We made eggs and toast. Field Trip

We will go on a field trip next week. It's a pumpkin patch based on colonial days. That is what we are doing for history. Instead of going on the Mayflower there, we will go on the Hayflower (it is made of hay )! I got new glasses yesterday. They have butterflies on them. I love them! Dottie and I can't wait for Halloween! I will be a rockstar!!! Can you guess what Dottie's gonna be? I'll give you a hint: she will wear a pretty dress, and a sash with the name of what she is on it. My mom said we can make Halloween cookies with candy corn! The little pumpkin candy corns are my favs! I get to go get a mani-pedi at my friends b-day! I also will sleepover at her house that night. I'm so excited. Next week we don't have any school, so we can work on everything the whole week. We will try to post some pics!

It's been a while since we got back to you. Polkie and I go to a charter school now. It's pretty fun but it's a lot of work. I have some friends there and I have made some new friends too.
I'm learning Latin, but my favorite subject is Critical Thinking. For a craft we are learning how to quill. Last month we were making clay pots and cups. In the morning we have Character class, then, we have Latin, Science, Language Arts, then Art and then Humanities. I am reading a book called, "The Courage of Sarah Noble". My teachers pick out really good books.

The First Day of School

Today we started school. We have started to read Sign of the Beaver for reading, and I got to have a mini cupcake with a candle in it to blow out and a mini cup of ice cream because today we celebrated all the summer birthdays. And for science in a couple weeks we get to go out and study the moon at night. We have been so busy with getting ready for school and vacations we haven't been able to talk much about what we did this summer. I start horse back riding lessons on Monday next week, I'm working on a "study spot", (picture above) for school this year. The gift bag is for pens and pencils, the cork is for notes, and the envelopes are for putting notes or school cards in. We went camping with our whole family and had my birthday party.

Summer Stuff!!!

Since we haven't posted in a long time, I will quickly describe our summer so far:

Polkie went to camp and had a great time
Went camping at the beach in a yurt
Picked more blueberries than we can count ( and eaten even more! )
Set up a new big pool and have gone swimming every day since it was set up
Gotten ready for a new school year
Dottie has been making bracelets, necklaces, and key chains out of beads
Babysat more babies than we can count....but it was sooo much fun!!!
Eating ice cream and orange floats and drinking soda pop
Getting our ears pierced
Enjoying all the sunshine, sand, and sea of the summer!!!

YAY!!!! I'm almost done with school! After this week, I will become a 6th grader, and Dottie will become a 3rd grader. I finished my state report and colored in the map. Minnie Dot, Dottie, and I had a lemonade stand yesterday. Dottie made almost 3 back up pitchers of lemonade because people kept on coming. It was so hot! My mom took us to McDonald's after we had sold all of our back up pitchers. We made a lot of signs and hung them all over the neighborhood.

I am doing a report on Hawaii because I want to go there really badly.

Busy Me

I've been very busy since Halloween! I just finished basketball before Christmas and I think I want to try ballet next. On Mondays I'm busy because it is an intense school and I sometimes babysit on Monday. On Tuesday I always babysit for a couple hours and then the rest of the day is spent on school. On Wednesday it is the same as Tuesday except I have Route 56 at church. On Thursday we usually go shopping and/or clean for a long time. Friday is mostly the same as Thursday. On Saturday we play with friends and my dad almost always has a project to work on that I can help with. On Sunday we go to church and when I get home I do my Bible study for that week. It is hard to keep up with my blog and busy me.

We made a pumpkin pinata and had to get packed for our long road-trip tomorrow. The pinata is for Thanksgiving. Dottie and I painted the pinata like a pumpkin. Tomorrow we our going to my cousins house. All my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents will be there. Some friends of the family are coming too. My baby cousin will be there and I LOVE her! I colored a picture today! It was in a Hello Kitty coloring book I found in my storage cabinet. It only had about one other page colored in it! I got it for a gift a long time ago and it is pretty much new. Dottie and I got 2 shots unexpectedly today. My brother had to get checked today. When we were there, my mom asked the nurse if she could schedule our shots. The nurse said we could get our shots that day. When we had got the first shot, the nurse said we needed to get another. After both of them, we got to pick out a toy or sucker. Dottie and I both got a sucker. Then my mom got us a happy meal at McDonalds.

Fall purse in a day!

This is a purse I made in just one day!
I was in my room when I picked up the sewing kit my Aunt sent me a long time ago. It included 4 pieces of felt, all different colors. I decided to use my time making a fall purse for my mom. Just in time! I found the button in my mom's little cup where she keeps all the tiny things that are lose in the house. I got a sewing basket filled with thread and needles that I used for the purse. It was a lot fun to make, and fun to use to store chap-stick, keys and other little things.

My mom made a cake that had purple ( my favorite color) flowers and a ten candle! I got a big bag of m&ms and balloons and a really cool banner that my mom made from my parents, some really cute clothes from my friends the Irwins and a backpack and matching lunch bag from my aunt and uncle!

Festive Watermelon Treats

These are watermelon circles.
It was a fun festive summer treat and I will be making them again! To make them use a teaspoon. Cut a watermelon in half and make balls turning the spoon upside down, pushing down lightly and then turning up. Put in a plastic bowl, keep repeating this till the watermelon half is gone. Between about 10 circles, empty the juice in the sink. Once you are done with both watermelons, put the balls in the 2 halves. Now enjoy this festive melon treat!

We went to the beach for Mother's Day.
In the ocean a seal was honking super loud! It was cute though. The sand was like glass because it was shiny, hard and smooth. We found some empty crab shells and some pretty ones too.

The VA is the Veteran's Administration. I was able to tour the hospital this past Friday with my good friends that work there for "Take a child to work day". I got to participate in the once a year earthquake drill. This is our friend Bill pretending to be an victim. That's fake blood on his hand. And that's fake hair!
The picture above is the pharmacy robot. It distributes medicine very quickly.
This is me in my scrubs. Scrubs are clothes that protect you when you are delivering and picking up instruments (instruments are medical tools) from different floors which Wanda and I did.

Scribbles,Marshi and Gus

Scribbles and Marshi ( I call Marshmallow Marshi for short ) and Gus get along well.
Gus likes to snuggle up against Marshi. Scribbles does it too but he loves to explore the house!
Scribbles and Marshi are 6 months. They came from the same mother.
I still have not found the seeds I want yet. I may get them tomorrow though. I'll post soon!

These are our new guinea pigs. The big, brown one is Gus, the new black one is Marshmallow. You might wonder why he's black and named Marshmallow it's because he is supposed to look like a burnt marshmallow! The new brown one is Scribbles. They are both small, a lot smaller than Gus! Before we got them they were even smaller. We got them from some friends. We are really happy to welcome them to our family!

Neighbors.

Tessa is the white fluffy dog. She died last year but she was very fun to play with and exciting to see.

Below her, is Grace. A dog they got after Tessa died. When they got her she was missing her leg she still is very active but she hops to walk.

Below Grace is Lily. She is very peaceful but still can be playful. She does not like getting bugged by other dogs but she loves Grace. She liked Tessa too.

Funny Miss Kitty Story!

Our Aunt just sent us this story about Miss Purrrrrfect!

One night last week, we were sleeping and I heard a loud banging noise. I got up to investigate and saw Miss Kitty sitting on her hind legs right in front of the side window of the front door. She was batting the window with her front paws repeatedly........first one then the other! When I got closer I could see another cat sitting at the window on the outside! The cat was white with brown spots and I had never seen it before.It wasn't doing anything but looking and Miss Kitty looked like a Rock'Em Sock'Em robot!!!

We think she's been watching our Uncle and Aunt play boxing on their Wii!!!!

Sorry we haven't posted lately. We've been pretty busy. Tonight we have OK Kids at our church. We play fun games, we have team time, sing songs, and have snack. My team also has a color. Dottie's color is blue and Pokie's color is white. You get points for bringing friends, your Bible, and behaving well, and wearing your team color. You use the points in the store to buy prizes and candy.

Yum............Junior mint cookies and oranges are my favorite Night-before-Thanksgiving-road-trip-warm-up! I LOVE eating them while my mom is making the stuffing and pie! Tomorrow we are going to drive three hours away from my house! But it is going to be worth it. Turkey, mashed potatoes, pie, stuffing and cake will all pay up for it! Gus also has been packing up his bags for an across the street drive and is sleeping at my friend's house for a few nights.

Gus just turned 4, and he has his own pen pal! His name is Hammer. Hammer is very old, older than Gus. He is 5. Right now I am going to post some Gus photos. So I have to go.

The Tea Party for Bears

Today we had a tea party. When we were outside my Mom made some chocolate cookies with white chocolate chips. My sister, Polkie, and my brother came. My sister and I brought our Teddy bears. The white one is mine and the black one is my sister's, Polkie.

Today on this windy day
the sun was low in the sky
cars with windshield wipers running passing by
rain pouring out of gutters and people
tightly closing their shutters
I get into my house I sit down and spread my quilt
and eat warm muffins with milk.

I would say this poem well describes a rainy day.

Gus's claws

Someone left a comment, asking about Gus's claw maintenance. They use nail clippers and we do watch. It only takes, like, two minutes.

Smiling Gus

Gus smiles all the time. He has two big front teeth. He weighs about four pounds and just so you know he is a guinea pig. He is only two years old. He has sharp claws! We take him in to a pet grooming shop that trims his claws.

COOKIE PUMPKIN PATCH

THE COOKIE RECIPE from our Grandma

(See the photos below)

2 1/4 C. flour
1/4 t. salt
2 t. baking powder
1/2 C. shortening
1 C. sugar
2 beaten eggs
1/2 t. vanilla
1 T. milk

Gently stir together the flour, salt and baking powder. In a separate bowl, mix the shortening and sugar until creamy. Add the eggs and vanilla to the wet ingredients and mix. Add the dry ingredients to the wet, and add the milk. Mix all together until well combined.

These cookies can be rolled out immediately. There is no need to chill the dough.
We place them on cookie sheets covered in parchment paper.
Bake at 350, for about 10 minutes.
Makes 2 1/2 dozen, (depends on the size of cut outs.)

We triple this recipe!

DECORATING:

We made a simple icing with powdered sugar, a tiny bit of milk, vanilla, and butter, then added food coloring. You can also sprinkle them with sprinkles before baking.
